Philippe Verdelot

Philippe Verdelot

Renaissance Franco-Flemish Composer and Madrigalist

Philippe Verdelot was a French composer of the Renaissance, born around the late 1470s or early 1480s and presumed to have died in the mid-1550s. He is often credited with being one of the creators of the Italian madrigal, a form that became one of the most important genres of secular music during the Renaissance. Verdelot worked in Italy for most of his career, notably in Florence and Rome, and he served in various musical posts including maestro di cappella at the cathedral in Florence.
