Philip Jones Brass Ensemble

Philip Jones Brass Ensemble

British Brass Chamber Group

The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, founded in 1951 by trumpeter Philip Jones, was a pioneering group in the world of brass chamber music. The ensemble was renowned for its versatility, embracing a wide repertoire that spanned from Renaissance and Baroque music to contemporary works. The group's excellence in performance set a new standard for brass ensembles and inspired the formation of similar groups around the world. Throughout its existence, the ensemble collaborated with numerous composers and arrangers to expand the brass repertoire, commissioning and performing many new works. The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble enjoyed a successful career until it disbanded in 1986 following Philip Jones's decision to retire. Their influence on brass chamber music continues to be felt, and their recordings remain a testament to their artistry and innovation in the field.
