Peter Hammill is an English singer-songwriter and progressive rock musician, best known as the founder, lead singer, and principal songwriter of the band Van der Graaf Generator. Born on November 5, 1948, Hammill's career spans more than five decades, during which he has been recognized for his distinctive voice and complex, often introspective lyrics. After the initial breakup of Van der Graaf Generator in 1978, Hammill continued to pursue a prolific solo career. He has released over 30 solo albums that explore various musical styles but often remain rooted in progressive rock's experimental ethos.
