French orchestra leader and conductor

Paul Mauriat was a French orchestra leader, conductor of Le Grand Orchestre de Paul Mauriat, and a composer who achieved worldwide fame in the 1960s and 1970s. Born on March 4, 1925, in Marseille, France, Mauriat started his musical career as a pianist and later moved on to arranging and conducting. He is best known for his 1968 hit single "Love is Blue" ("L'amour est bleu"), which was originally composed by André Popp for Luxembourg's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967.
