Pat Martino was an influential jazz guitarist known for his fluid improvisational style and deep understanding of music theory. Born Patrick Azzara on August 25, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he became one of the most distinctive voices in jazz guitar. Martino began playing professionally at a young age and was performing regularly on the jazz scene by his late teens. Throughout his career, he played with a variety of jazz legends, including organists Jack McDuff and Jimmy Smith.
