Paolo Montarsolo

Paolo Montarsolo

Italian Opera Bass-Baritone

Paolo Montarsolo (1925–2006) was an Italian bass opera singer renowned for his comedic timing and deep, resonant voice. He had a prolific career in opera, performing at many of the world's leading opera houses, including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Royal Opera House in London. Montarsolo was particularly celebrated for his performances in the operas of Gioachino Rossini, often taking on buffo roles—comic characters that require both vocal agility and a strong sense of humor. His interpretations of characters such as Don Bartolo in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" and Don Magnifico in "La Cenerentola" were highly acclaimed. Montarsolo's career spanned several decades, during which he worked with many distinguished conductors and directors. His contributions to recorded opera are significant, with numerous recordings that continue to be appreciated by opera enthusiasts today.
