Pantaleón Perez Prado, better known as Pérez Prado, was a Cuban bandleader, organist, pianist, and composer who is often referred to as the "King of the Mambo." He was born on December 11, 1916, in Matanzas, Cuba, and passed away on September 14, 1989. Prado is credited with popularizing the mambo in the late 1940s and 1950s. His music was characterized by its catchy rhythms and brass-driven sound.
