Otto Albert Tichy

Otto Albert Tichy

Czech Composer and Conductor

Otto Albert Tichý was a Czech composer and organist born on October 7, 1890, in Moravia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His musical career was marked by a strong influence of the late Romantic style, and he was known for his sacred music compositions. Tichý studied at the Prague Conservatory and later in Paris with Vincent d'Indy. Throughout his career, he composed a variety of works including operas, symphonies, chamber music, and choral pieces. His compositions often reflected his devout Catholic faith, which is evident in works such as the "Messe En L’honneur De L’enfant-jesus De Prague." Tichý's music was well-received during his lifetime, and he held various positions as an organist in both Czechoslovakia and France. He passed away on April 9, 1973, in France. While not widely known today outside of certain classical music circles, his contributions to sacred music continue to be appreciated by those familiar with his work.
