Original Dixieland Jazz Band

Original Dixieland Jazz Band

Pioneers of Jazz Music Recording

The Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB) was a New Orleans jazz ensemble that is widely regarded as one of the earliest bands to popularize jazz music. Formed in 1916, the group consisted of five musicians: Nick LaRocca (cornet), Eddie Edwards (trombone), Larry Shields (clarinet), Henry Ragas (piano), and Tony Sbarbaro (drums). They are often credited with recording the first jazz phonograph record, "Livery Stable Blues," in 1917, which became a huge hit and helped spread the jazz genre to a wider audience.
