New Riders Of The Purple Sage

New Riders Of The Purple Sage

Country Rock Pioneers New Riders of the Purple Sage

New Riders of the Purple Sage, often abbreviated as NRPS, is an American country rock band that emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area psychedelic scene in 1969. The group was originally formed by John Dawson, David Nelson, and Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, who at the time wanted to play pedal steel guitar. The band's eponymous debut album "New Riders of the Purple Sage" was released in 1971, and they quickly became a staple in the country rock genre with their mix of rock, country, and folk music.
