Neal Hefti

Neal Hefti

Jazz Trumpeter and Composer of Classic TV Themes

Neal Hefti was an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger notable for his contributions to the big band sound of the 1950s and 1960s. Born on October 29, 1922, in Hastings, Nebraska, Hefti started his career as a trumpeter with the Charlie Spivak Orchestra. However, he gained greater recognition for his work as an arranger, particularly during his time with the Count Basie Orchestra. His arrangements and compositions, such as "Lil' Darlin'" and "Cute," became staples in the Basie band's repertoire and are considered classics in the big band genre.
