Mike Osborne was a British jazz alto saxophonist and composer known for his work in the free jazz and free improvisation scenes. Born in Hereford, England, on September 28, 1941, he became a prominent figure in the British jazz community during the 1960s and 1970s. Osborne was associated with the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and collaborated with various other notable musicians of the time, including Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, an ensemble that blended African music with jazz. His playing was characterized by its intensity and inventiveness, and he was highly regarded among his peers.
