Marion Brown was an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer known for his involvement in the avant-garde jazz movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Born on September 8, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, Brown was part of a wave of musicians who pushed the boundaries of jazz music. He moved to New York City in the early 1960s, where he became associated with the free jazz scene and collaborated with prominent figures such as John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, and Sun Ra.
