Austrian Bass-Baritone Opera Singer

Manfred Jungwirth was an Austrian operatic bass who had a significant career in opera. Born on July 8, 1919, in Graz, Austria, he became known for his powerful voice and his interpretations of the works of Wagner and Strauss. Although primarily recognized for his stage performances, Jungwirth also made several recordings during his career. He was a member of the Vienna State Opera where he performed a wide range of roles. His portrayal of characters such as Osmin in Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" and Gurnemanz in Wagner's "Parsifal" were particularly acclaimed. Jungwirth's career spanned several decades, and he left an indelible mark on the world of opera before his death on October 17, 1994.
