Ludovico Roncalli

Ludovico Roncalli

Baroque Italian Composer and Guitarist

Ludovico Roncalli (1654–1713) was an Italian composer and guitarist from the Baroque era, not to be confused with contemporary artists or bands. He is known for his work "Capricci armonici sopra la chitarra spagnola" published in 1692, which is a collection of nine suites for the five-course baroque guitar. This collection is one of the last major publications for the instrument before it was supplanted by the six-string guitar in the 19th century. Roncalli's music has been appreciated for its elegance and complexity, and it has been revived in modern times by classical guitarists looking to explore the baroque repertoire. His compositions are often performed and recorded by classical guitarists today, contributing to his enduring legacy in the classical guitar world. The albums "Treasures For Guitar" and "Tilman Hoppstock - Variations For Guitar" are not directly associated with Ludovico Roncalli himself but may contain interpretations of his work by modern artists.
