Esaias Reusner Jr.

Esaias Reusner Jr.

17th-Century German Lutenist and Composer

Esaias Reusner Jr. (1636–1679) was a notable German lutenist and composer of the Baroque era. Born into a family of musicians, he is often recognized for his contributions to the repertoire for the lute, an instrument that was highly popular during his time. Reusner's career was marked by his service in various noble courts, including that of the Elector of Brandenburg. He published two significant collections of lute music: "Delitiae Testudinis" (1654) and "Erfreuliche Lauten-Lust" (1676). These works showcase his mastery of the French lute style and his ability to blend it with German musical traditions. His compositions are characterized by their intricate counterpoint and elegant melodies, reflecting the sophisticated musical tastes of the 17th century. Reusner's legacy is preserved through these collections, which continue to be studied and performed by lutenists and early music enthusiasts today.
