Louise Distras

Louise Distras

British punk rock singer-songwriter

Tipped as the voice of punk‘s next generation, Louise Distras plays a socially conscious and insightful brand of protest poetry descended from The Clash bloodline. Her path from hardship to heart-felt anthems began when she ran away from home, aged 16. Armed with a guitar and the few chords she knew she decided to play music for anyone who’d listen. Her unshakeable belief that “Music changes the world” underlines her own story, because it certainly changed hers. In 2015, her debut LP ‘Dreams from the Factory Floor’ was released worldwide to critical acclaim. Featuring Mick Talbot (Style Council), the album balances propulsive, old-school punk anthems with assertive, socially-aware folk-punk. Kerrang! named her a ‘Star of 2017’ saying “Louise Distras is the most exciting voice in UK punk right now!” She’s also performed at Glastonbury, been played on Radio 1, Kerrang, Radio X, KROQ, appeared on Channel 4 news and shared stages with Billy Bragg, Mick Jones (The Clash), Dropkick Murphys, The Interrupters, Frank Turner, The Subways, Buzzcocks, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers and The King Blues to name a few. Distras recently announced she was in Oakland CA recording her sophomore album with producer Ross Petersen (Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Goo Goo Dolls). She returned with the Street Revolution EP and set out on a headline UK tour in support of Crisis Charity and Musicians Against Homelessness. The rabble rousing title-track was immediately championed at Radio X being made John Kennedy’s ‘X-posure Hot One’ as well as airplay support from BBC Radio London where DJ Gary Crowley praised the track as “A song for our times. It leaps out of the radio”. It’s the perfect teaser of what to expect come from the new album, showing that Louise’s talent for crafting powerful and direct messages with addictive melodies over righteous punk rock hooks has really come to the fore more than ever before. Hold tight.
