Lesley Gore

Lesley Gore

60s Pop Icon and Its My Party Singer

Lesley Gore was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and activist who gained fame in the early 1960s. Born on May 2, 1946, in New York City as Lesley Sue Goldstein, she was discovered by Quincy Jones as a teenager and signed to Mercury Records. Gore's first hit, "It's My Party," released in 1963 when she was just 16 years old, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She followed up with a string of hits including "Judy's Turn to Cry," "She's a Fool," and the feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me," which became her second most successful single.
