Leopold Simoneau

Canadian Operatic Tenor

Leopold Simoneau (1916–2006) was a distinguished Canadian lyric tenor, renowned for his Mozartian roles and his refined vocal technique. Born in Saint-Flavien, Quebec, Simoneau began his vocal studies in Canada before furthering his training in New York and then in France. His international breakthrough came in 1949 when he performed at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in England. Simoneau was particularly celebrated for his performances as Don Ottavio in "Don Giovanni" and as Tamino in "Die Zauberflöte," both operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
