László Benkő

László Benkő

Hungarian Rock Musician and Keyboardist

László Benkő was a prominent Hungarian musician, best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band Omega, which was formed in 1962. As a classically trained musician, Benkő played keyboards and was also skilled at the trumpet. His contributions to Omega were significant, as he helped to shape the band's unique sound that combined classical music influences with rock and roll. Omega became one of the most successful Hungarian bands internationally, especially noted for their hit "Gyöngyhajú lány" which gained fame across Europe and was later sampled by Kanye West in his song "New Slaves." Throughout his career with Omega, Benkő was involved in the production of numerous albums and remained with the band until his death. His musicianship and influence extended beyond just performance; he also contributed to the composition and arrangement of many of Omega's works. László Benkő's legacy is remembered in the world of rock music, particularly within the Hungarian music scene, where he is celebrated as a pioneer and an influential figure.
