The orchestra was founded in 1952 under the name Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester (Berlin Symphony Orchestra) and adopted its current name in 2006 to reflect its close association with the Konzerthaus. Over the years, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin has been led by a series of distinguished conductors, including Kurt Sanderling, Eliahu Inbal, and Iván Fischer, who served as its principal conductor from 2012 to 2018.
