Københavns Strygekvartet

Københavns Strygekvartet

Danish String Quartet

Danish chamber music ensemble, founded in 1957 by musicians from Det Kongelige Kapel: initiator Asger Lund Christiansen on cello, Tutter Givskov as primaria (first violinist), Mogens Lüdolph on 2nd violin (later Mogens Durholm) and Mogens Bruun on viola. The quartet was for a number of years one of the leading Danish chamber ensembles, and it has had a significant foreign touring business. The repertoire included music by, among others, Niels W. Gade and Vagn Holmboe, whose quartets in many cases were written for the ensemble. The quartet disbanded in 1994.
