Kenny Burrell is a highly respected American jazz guitarist, known for his work in the bebop and hard bop idioms. Born on July 31, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, Burrell began playing guitar in his teenage years and quickly established himself as a talented musician. He attended Wayne State University, where he studied music theory and composition. Burrell's career took off in the 1950s when he moved to New York City and began performing with some of the leading jazz musicians of the time, including Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson.
