Award-winning singer-songwriter, producer and instrumentalist, A critically acclaimed international performer and self-taught musician and producer, Julia Biel is known to accompany herself on either electric guitar or piano and is backed by her all-star rhythm section, Idris Rahman (bass) and Saleem Raman (drums). A former Perrier Jazz Vocalist of the Year winner and Jazz Awards Rising Star nominee, her self-produced debut album ‘Not Alone’, featuring songs written in collaboration with the British folk/jazz guitarist Jonny Phillips. The critical acclaim surrounding her first album has brought Julia to the attention of a host of other acts including the Mercury Prize nominated post-jazz act Polar Bear (3), Hidden Orchestra, Ben Watt of the revered Everything But The Girl and London-based afrobeat/reggae collective Soothsayers.
