Juan Cabanilles

Juan Cabanilles

Spanish Baroque Composer and Organist

Juan Bautista José Cabanilles (also known as Joan) was a Spanish composer, organist, and priest from the Baroque period. Born on September 6, 1644, in Algemesí, near Valencia, Spain, he is often referred to as the "Spanish Bach." Cabanilles served as the organist at the Valencia Cathedral for more than half a century, where he composed a vast amount of music for the instrument. His works are predominantly for keyboard and include a variety of toccatas, passacaglias, and other forms that were common during the Baroque era.
