18th-Century French Classical Composer and Virtuoso Violinist

Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745–1799) was a prominent historical figure in classical music, renowned for his exceptional skills as a violinist, composer, and conductor. Born in the French Caribbean colony of Guadeloupe, he was the son of a wealthy plantation owner and his African slave. Saint-Georges was sent to France for his education, where he excelled in both music and fencing, eventually earning the title "Chevalier" for his prowess in the latter.
