Josef Schelb

Josef Schelb

German Classical Composer and Pianist

Josef Schelb (1894–1977) was a German composer and musician whose work spanned a variety of genres, including orchestral music, chamber music, and compositions for solo instruments. Born in Baden-Baden, he was an influential figure in the music scene of his time, particularly within Germany. Schelb's style evolved over the years, reflecting elements of Romanticism as well as modernist tendencies. He held positions such as the director of the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and was a respected teacher who influenced a number of students. Despite being quite prolific and respected in his day, Schelb's music fell into relative obscurity after his death. However, there has been a renewed interest in his work in recent years, leading to recordings and performances of his compositions, including his orchestral and organ works.
