John Jenkins

John Jenkins

Emerging Indie Folk Singer-Songwriter

John Jenkins (1592–1678) was an English composer renowned for his achievements in chamber music during the Baroque period. He is particularly celebrated for his compositions for the viol consort, a popular form of domestic music-making in the seventeenth century. Jenkins's work is characterized by its melodic richness and contrapuntal skill, which earned him a distinguished reputation among his contemporaries and successors. His output includes a significant number of fantasias, pavans, galliards, and airs, many of which were written for the consort of viols. Jenkins's music was well-regarded for its expressive depth and technical mastery, making him one of the most important English composers of instrumental music before Henry Purcell.
