Johann Adam Reincken

Johann Adam Reincken

Baroque German Organist and Composer

Johann Adam Reincken (1643–1722) was a Dutch-German Baroque composer and organist. He is best known for his work as an organist at the famous St. Catherine's Church in Hamburg, a position he held for nearly 40 years until his death. Reincken was a highly respected figure in the Baroque music scene, and his influence extended to the young Johann Sebastian Bach, who admired his work greatly. Reincken's compositions include a variety of works for keyboard, particularly for organ and harpsichord. His music is characterized by its intricate counterpoint and stylus fantasticus, a style that allows for improvisatory freedom and virtuosity.
