Norwegian Composer and Violinist

Johan Halvorsen was a Norwegian composer, conductor, and violinist who lived from 1864 to 1935. He is considered one of the most prominent figures in Norwegian musical life during his time. Halvorsen's career was marked by his tenure as the conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and later the National Theatre in Oslo, where he significantly influenced the Norwegian music scene. His compositions often drew upon Norwegian folk music traditions, and he is best known for works such as "Bojarenes inntogsmarsj" (Entry March of the Boyars) and his "Bergensiana" Rococo Variations on an old Melody from Bergen.
