Jerzy Żurawlew was a renowned Polish pianist, teacher, and composer, born on July 7, 1886, in Warsaw and passed away on October 1, 1980. He is best known for his significant contributions to the world of classical music and his efforts in promoting the works of Fryderyk Chopin. Żurawlew founded the Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1927, which has since become one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world. His dedication to Chopin's legacy extended to his pedagogical work; he taught at the Warsaw Conservatory and later at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. His career was more focused on live performance, education, and fostering new generations of pianists rather than producing recorded collections of works.
