Jean Langlais

Jean Langlais

French classical organist and composer

Jean Langlais (1907–1991) was a renowned French composer, organist, and teacher. Despite being blinded by glaucoma at the age of two, he went on to have a prolific career in music. Langlais studied at the National Institute for the Young Blind in Paris, where he later taught, and at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was a student of Marcel Dupré and Charles Tournemire. He succeeded Tournemire as the organist at the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde in Paris and held this prestigious position from 1945 until 1988.
