Jean-Baptiste Quentin

Jean-Baptiste Quentin

Baroque French Violinist and Composer

Jean-Baptiste Quentin was an 18th-century French composer and violinist, primarily known for his chamber music, including quartets and sonatas. His exact birth and death dates are not well-documented, but he was active in Paris during the first half of the 18th century. Quentin was associated with the Concert Spirituel, one of the first public concert series in existence. His compositions reflect the style of the late Baroque period, with a tendency towards the emerging galant style that would eventually lead into the Classical era. While not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, Quentin's work has been appreciated for its craftsmanship and contribution to the development of instrumental music during his time. His music, including trio sonatas and violin concertos, showcases a blend of French elegance and Italianate virtuosity, which was typical of the period's cosmopolitan musical tastes.
