Jaromír Hnilička was a Czech jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader. Born on September 26, 1932, in Prague, he was a prominent figure in the Czech jazz scene. Hnilička was known for his contributions to the development of jazz in Czechoslovakia during the second half of the 20th century. He played with various ensembles and was a member of the Czechoslovak Radio Jazz Orchestra. His work often blended elements of classical music with jazz, which is evident in compositions such as his "Missa Jazz," a piece that fuses the structure of the traditional mass with jazz rhythms and harmonies. Throughout his career, Hnilička received recognition for his musical talents and was influential in shaping the sound of Czech jazz. He passed away on November 22, 2020.
