Jan Van Gilse

Jan Van Gilse

Dutch Classical Composer and Conductor

Jan van Gilse (1881–1944) was a Dutch composer and conductor who made significant contributions to classical music in the Netherlands during the early 20th century. He studied composition in Germany with Engelbert Humperdinck and later with Franz Wüllner, which helped him develop a style that blended Romanticism with emerging modernist elements. Van Gilse served as a conductor for various orchestras, including the Utrecht Municipal Orchestra, which he led from 1917 to 1922.
