Jaki Liebezeit

Jaki Liebezeit

Innovative German Drummer and Can Co-Founder

Jaki Liebezeit was a German drummer and founding member of the experimental rock band Can, which was a pioneering group in the krautrock movement. Born on May 26, 1938, Liebezeit is best known for his unique drumming style, which was characterized by a hypnotic and metronomic precision that became a defining element of Can's sound. Before joining Can in 1968, he had a background in jazz and had played with the Manfred Schoof Quintet. With Can, Liebezeit contributed to seminal albums such as "Tago Mago," "Ege Bamyasi," and "Future Days." After Can disbanded in the late 1970s, he continued to be an influential figure in music, collaborating with numerous artists across various genres and exploring different musical projects. Jaki Liebezeit passed away on January 22, 2017, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most innovative drummers in the history of rock music.
