Jacques Loussier

Jacques Loussier

French Pianist and Composer Known for Jazz Interpretations of Bach

Jacques Loussier (1934-2019) was a French pianist and composer best known for his jazz interpretations of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. His career spanned over five decades, during which he achieved international acclaim for his innovative blend of classical music and jazz. In 1959, Loussier formed the Jacques Loussier Trio with bassist Pierre Michelot and percussionist Christian Garros. This ensemble gained fame for their "Play Bach" series, which began with the album "Play Bach No. 1." The trio's approach involved improvising jazz arrangements of Bach's compositions, a style that resonated with both classical and jazz audiences.
