Ian Dury

Ian Dury

British Punk and New Wave Singer-Songwriter

Ian Dury was a distinctive figure in the British music scene, known for his clever wordplay, distinctive Cockney accent, and a fusion of rock and roll, funk, and reggae. Born on May 12, 1942, in Harrow, London, he rose to fame in the late 1970s as the lead singer of the band Ian Dury and the Blockheads. They achieved success with their debut album "New Boots and Panties!!" which was released in 1977 and is often considered a classic of the era. The album did not include any singles at first, which was unusual for the time, yet it still charted based on its strong word-of-mouth and Dury's charismatic performances.
