Holly Johnson

Holly Johnson

British pop artist and former Frankie Goes to Hollywood frontman

Holly Johnson is an English artist, musician, and writer best known as the lead vocalist of the seminal 1980s pop band Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Born on February 9, 1960, in Liverpool, Johnson rose to fame with the band's hit single "Relax," which was banned by the BBC but still became a massive success. Following "Relax," Frankie Goes to Hollywood had other chart-topping hits like "Two Tribes" and "The Power of Love." After leaving Frankie Goes to Hollywood in the late 1980s, Holly Johnson embarked on a solo career. His debut solo album, "Blast," released in 1989, was well-received and included successful singles such as "Love Train" and "Americanos." Johnson's career has been marked by his distinctive voice, his contributions to the new wave movement, and his impact on LGBTQ+ visibility in pop music.
