Ethiopian Jazz Musician and Accordionist

Hailu Mergia is an acclaimed Ethiopian musician and accordionist known for his distinctive blend of jazz and traditional Ethiopian music. He rose to prominence in the 1970s as a member of the Walias Band, a group that played a significant role in the Addis Ababa music scene during a period known as the "Golden Age" of Ethiopian music. After the band's international tour, Mergia settled in the United States where he drove taxis for many years while still pursuing his music career.
