György Vashegyi

Hungarian Conductor and Early Music Specialist

György Vashegyi is a Hungarian conductor, harpsichordist, and musicologist with a significant contribution to the performance of Baroque and Classical music. He is particularly known for his work with period instruments and historically informed performance practices. Vashegyi founded the Orfeo Orchestra in 1991 and the Purcell Choir in 1990, both of which have gained recognition for their authentic interpretations of early music. Under his leadership, these ensembles have performed a wide repertoire, including both well-known masterpieces and lesser-known works deserving of wider recognition.
