Russian Classical Pianist

Grigory Sokolov is a distinguished Russian pianist, renowned for his exceptional technique and profound interpretations of a wide range of classical repertoire. Born on April 18, 1950, in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia, Sokolov displayed prodigious musical talent from an early age. He began studying piano at the age of five and entered the Leningrad Conservatory's special school for children where he was a student of Leah Zelikhman. At the age of 16, he gained international recognition by winning the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 1966, which launched his career.
