Greg Brown

Greg Brown

Folk Singer-Songwriter from Iowa

Greg Brown is an American folk musician and singer-songwriter from Iowa, whose career spans several decades. Born in 1949, Brown's rich baritone voice and earthy, lyrical compositions have earned him a dedicated following. He began his professional music career in the early 1970s and has since released more than two dozen albums. Among his notable works is "The Iowa Waltz," which has become something of a folk classic, celebrating his home state with warmth and affection. Brown's songwriting often reflects themes of love, life in rural America, and the environment. He has received several accolades for his music, including multiple Grammy Award nominations. In addition to his solo work, Brown has collaborated with other artists and contributed to various compilations and projects. His influence extends beyond his own recordings as he has also founded his own record label, Red House Records, which has been instrumental in promoting other folk and acoustic artists.
