Gravediggaz

Gravediggaz

Pioneering American horrorcore hip-hop group

Gravediggaz was an American hip-hop group formed in 1994, known for its unique fusion of horror-themed lyrics and hardcore rap, a style they dubbed "horrorcore." The group consisted of Prince Paul (The Undertaker), Frukwan (The Gatekeeper), Too Poetic (The Grym Reaper), and RZA (The Rzarector) from the Wu-Tang Clan. Their debut album, "6 Feet Deep" (also known as "Niggamortis" outside the United States), released in 1994, is considered a seminal work in the horrorcore subgenre, featuring dark, complex lyrics and innovative production. The album received critical acclaim and has since gained a cult following. Gravediggaz's music tackled themes of death, mental illness, and societal issues with a macabre sense of humor and grim storytelling. Despite the dark content, the group was praised for their lyrical prowess and the production quality of their tracks. They continued to produce music into the late 1990s but never quite matched the impact of their debut. The group faced tragedy when Too Poetic died of colon cancer in 2001. Gravediggaz's influence can still be seen in various underground hip-hop circles, and they are remembered for their groundbreaking contributions to the genre.
