Gloria Scott

Soul Singer Known for 1970s Hit Just As Long As Were Together

Soul singer Born on 26 February 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. She moved to San Francisco Bay area where she met Sly Stone, as her aunt sang in a group with him. When Sly heard her singing Carla Thomas' "Gee Whiz" he formed a group for her Gloria Scott & The Tonettes and wrote the two sides of their single "I Taught Him". After this, Scott started singing as back up singer for Ike & Tina Turner as a member of Ikettes and later in the early 70's she caught the attention of Barry White that signed her to his label Soul Unlimited and licensed her debut album to Casablanca. Although her non album single "Just As Long As We're Together" was a hit in 1974, she never released a second album, though she had signed a seven years' deal with Barry White's label.
