Giovanni Rovetta

Giovanni Rovetta

17th-Century Venetian Baroque Composer and Singer

Giovanni Rovetta was a significant figure in the early Baroque period of classical music, primarily active in the 17th century. He was an Italian composer and singer who spent much of his career in Venice, where he worked at St. Mark's Basilica. Rovetta began as a singer at the basilica and later succeeded Claudio Monteverdi as maestro di cappella, a prestigious position that he held from 1668 until his death in 1669.
