Ginger Baker's Air Force

Ginger Baker's Air Force

British Jazz-Rock Fusion Group

Ginger Baker's Air Force was a jazz-rock fusion band led by the legendary drummer Ginger Baker, best known as a founding member of the rock band Cream. The group was formed after the breakup of Cream in 1968 and Blind Faith in 1969, showcasing Baker's interest in fusing rock with jazz and African rhythms. The band's self-titled debut album, "Ginger Baker's Air Force," was released in 1970 and featured an array of talented musicians, including Steve Winwood, Ric Grech, Graham Bond, and Denny Laine. The ensemble was known for its live performances, which were characterized by extended instrumental jams and the innovative use of dual drummers, allowing for complex polyrhythmic structures that reflected Baker's pioneering drumming style. Despite the group's potential and the critical acclaim for their musicianship, Ginger Baker's Air Force was short-lived due to financial difficulties and the logistical challenges of touring with a large ensemble.
