Gianvincenzo Cresta

After receiving diplomas in piano and composition, Gianvincenzo Cresta devoted himself to the study of the music of the late twentieth century and published the volume Le possibilità del molteplice (The Manifold Possibilities), Rugginenti Editore, Milan 2000, and some 40 essays and articles on historical-analytical issues. He is the editor of the book L’ascolto del pensiero - Scritti su Luigi Nono (Listening to Thought – Writings on Luigi Nono) - Rugginenti Editore, Milano 2002.He continued his composition studies under Giacomo Manzoni at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (Fiesole School of Music). He is one of the most active composers of his generation, his catalog includes not only solo pieces, but also works for ensemble, voice, orchestra and electronic music. His music is regularly performed at the top music festivals: the Zagreb Biennale, Festival Cervantino in Mexico City, Opéra Bastille in Paris, Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden, Parco della Musica in Rome, Journées Grame in Lyon, Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 2012, commissioned by Radio France, he composed “In Amoroso Canto” for the Présence Festival 2013. His music has been broadcast by Belgian VRT, Rai Radio Tre, Rai Tre, TVE2, and Radio France. He collaborates steadily with soloists such as Christophe Desjardins, Rohan de Saram, Pascal Gallois, Claude Delangle, Rachid Safir, the Ensemble XXI of Paris and many others. He has recorded for Arts, Stradivarius, Tempi Moderni, Rainbow Classic, Niccolò, Konsequenz, and Aliamusica records. His compositions are published by Rai Trade, Rugginenti, Stradivairus, and Berbén. Critical studies on his compositional output are contained in: Encyclopedia of Italian Composers, Pagano Editori, Naples 2001, edited by R. Cresti; L’Arte innocente - Le vie eccentriche della musica contemporanea (The Innocent Art - The Paths of Eccentric Contemporary Music), by Renzo Cresti, Rugginenti Editore, Milan, 2004; Renzo Cresti, I linguaggi delle arti e della musica (The Languages of the Arts and Music), Edizioni il Molo, Viareggio, 2007; Renzo Cresti, Fare musica oggi: difficoltà e gioie (Making Music Today: Difficulties and Joys), Marco Del Bucchia Editore, Lucca, 2010. He collaborates on seminars and conferences with Florida International University, University of Massachusetts, Superior Conservatory of Madrid, Grame in Lyon, C.S.I in Lugano. He teaches Theory of Harmony and Analysis at the “D.Cimarosa” Conservatory of Avellino.
