Germaine Tailleferre

Germaine Tailleferre

French Female Composer of Les Six

Germaine Tailleferre (1892–1983) was a French composer and the only female member of the group of composers known as Les Six, which also included Francis Poulenc, Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, Georges Auric, and Louis Durey. This group was united more by their friendship and a certain iconoclasm in their reaction against the musical establishment than by any specific musical style or aesthetic. Tailleferre's music is known for its charm, wit, and lyrical beauty, often reflecting the neoclassical trend of the early 20th century while maintaining a distinctive voice.
