French violinist, born 6 June 1936 in Châtellerault, France and died 18 January 2004 in Saint-Éliph, France. An award-winning violinist by the age of 14, he came to be regarded as one of the greatest French violinists of the 20th century. He formed Le Trio À Cordes Français in 1959 with violist Serge Collot, and cellist Michel Tournus, a collaboration which lasted for more then 30 years. In 1969, he joined the Orchestre De Chambre Jean-François Paillard as solo violinist, and remained active with the orchestra for 30 years, participating in more than 150 recordings, and 2 500 concerts all over the world. Between 1984 and 2001, he was also first solo violinist with the L'Orchestre National d'Ile De France, with which he also recorded extensively.
